Porphyry: an ideal material for coatings
Porphyry is a particular type of volcanic rock belonging to the "Atesina Porphyry Platform", an
enormous complex of volcanic rocks that extends into the Trentino-Alto Adige region.
These rocks, extremely varied and differentiated, both as a chemical composition and as a form of
formation, are the result of an intense volcanic activity started 260 million years ago in the Permian
period, and continued for several million years with a continuous repetition of eruptive phases and
Among the various methods of deposition of these rocks, the so-called ignimbrites take on
particular importance, as these are the ones that gave rise to the "porphyry". These are flows of
liquid-gaseous mixtures with thicknesses generally ranging from 5 to 20 meters and with a fairly
constant chemism, up to the so-called ignimbritic unit, which reaches hundreds of meters thick.
External porphyry stone cladding from Trentino
The external cladding stone are always the optimal solution that combines great durability and
aesthetic effect of merit.
Natural stone is increasingly used for indoor and outdoor flooring, stair walls
and wall inserts: the materiality of the stone conveys that feeling of psycho-physical well-being
appreciated by all designers.
Porphyry is an effusive volcanic rock, composed of a bottom of vitreous paste in which small quartz
crystals of feldspar and micas are immersed, so as to give the stone a color that varies from light gray
to medium brown.
Thanks to this particular composition, porphyry is the optimal solution
for external stone claddings because it is one of the most resistant materials to wear and moisture,
able to react to the attack of chemical and atmospheric agents.
The porphyry, since its extraction, is characterized by a regular morphology that makes it versatile for
any type of use: in fact, it is suitable for :
- external or internal coatings
- urban and private decorations
- pool edges
- coating of walls
- gardens coverings
